Bronze d’Airain Art Foundry 25th Anniversary

For the 25 years of the art foundry “Le Bronze d’Airain”, its creator Marc Massa presented the work of several contemporary artists such as Bria Bari, Steph Cop, Nicolas Lavarenne, Serge Van de Put… in partnership with FG Fine Art gallery.

After a career of ironworker and founder, Marc Massa opened his own foundry in 1988 in Tourettes-sur-Loup, in order to innovate and develop the trade both at technical and creative level. He also proposes his own creations and collections.

Expertise in foundry technology

The Bronze d’Airain foundry is an expert in foundry technology, mainly the lost wax technique. Marc Massa made his own furnaces (melting and cooking of 75 kW) and developed a pantograph that allows him to reproduce sculptures in large size. He developed a system of fumes treatment and a technique of casting by aspiration. This process, commonly used by jewelers and prosthetists for casting small pieces, has been adapted to foundry production of large pieces. This technique provides a very good quality and an excellent homogeneity of bronze.
The company controls all manufacturing steps and offers both its creative services of founder, moulder, engraver, patina. The Bronze d’Airain foundry distinguishes itself through the development of its own equipment and techniques, resulting in a unique know-how in particular in achieving monumental pieces.

1st Prize of the Dynamique Artisanale

The “shopwindow” of the workshop consists of an exhibition gallery for models made for sculptors and some creations of the workshop. It preserves and archives all cast works molds, and can therefore reproduce a bronze at the sculptor’s request.
Bronze d’Airain foundry and Marc Massa achieved for the mayor of Fréjus a text in bronze in tribute to General de Gaulle, a bronze cup for the final of Des Chiffres et des Lettres TV show, in Monaco a bronze bust of Léo Ferré, a collection of three bronze columns for the Ministry of Culture, a “Flames” monument dedicated to the martyrs of the resistance in Gattières .
The foundry received the 1st Prize of the Dynamique Artisanale 1998 by Banque Populaire Côte d’ Azur, the 1st Prize of the Craftsman of the new Millennium in 2001by the Chamber of Trade of the Maritime Alps, and the EPV label in 2009. Excellence of French know-how, the label Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) is a trademark of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry, put in place to reward French companies with craft skills and manufacturing excellence.

On exhibition were Nicolas Lavarenne, Bertrand Pigeon, Steph. Cop, Serge Van de Put, Marc Massa, Romeda, Marion Burklé, Pilli, Bria Bari, George…
