Extreme Sailing Series In Baie Des Anges

The eighth edition of Extreme Sailing Series stops in Nice for the fourth consecutive year, from October 2 to 5, 2014 on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.

The regattas will take place in the turquoise waters of the Baie Bes Anges near the shore to offer the public with an exciting spectacle from 14h to 17h. The Race Village, on the Quai des États-Unis, opposite the Esplanade Georges Pompidou, will welcome the public from October 3 to 5.

An international circuit

From February to December 2014, the fleet of 11 Extreme 40 catamarans is sailing around three continents and calls at eight iconic cities: Singapore, Muscat (Oman), Qingdao (China), Saint Petersbourg (Russia), Cardiff (United Kingdom ). Before the last stage in Sydney (Australia), the Extreme Sailing Series hoist their sails in the Baie des Anglais.

Key prestigious skippers

Organized by OC Sport, Extreme Sailing Series bring together majors names in the sailing world such as the French Franck Cammas, recent winner of the Volvo Ocean Race, the British Sir Ben Ainslie, several times Olympic champion, and the Swiss Alinghi team, twice winner of the America’s Cup.
Indeed, the crews from 11 nationalities accumulate 30 participations in the Olympic Games, 42 participations in the America’s Cup and 100 world championship titles.

For the public enjoyment

The Extreme Sailing Series were created in 2007 by OC Sport, a global sports marketing and events company specializing in professional sailing and outdoor events. The races propose a unique concept: the races in “Nautical Stadium.” For the public to enjoy the intense and technical regattas, the Extreme Sailing Series are held in the heart of cities, just meters from the shore.
The Extreme 40 catamarans, true “Formula 1” of the seas, compete over tactical and narrow courses, as close as possible to the audience.
Hence, these races gather the key professional sailors while being an open and accessible to the public event, which is at the heart of the action.

Guest Sailors

Furthermore, by creating the post of “Guest Sailors”, the Extreme Sailing Series offer the opportunity to guests to find themselves in the heart of the action by embarking on board the Extreme 40s during the racing.

In 2013, OC Sport and Land Rover have announced an exclusive partnership for the next three seasons, the iconic brand becoming the Main Sponsor of the circuit.
