Happy 30th Birthday TFWA!

During its World Exhibition in Cannes, TFWA celebrated 30 years of dedication to the development of the duty free and travel retail industry.

The anniversay has seen over 6, 500 delegates discover the stands on the 21,000 sqm of exhibition area at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, turned into an Ali Baba’s cave of products. The very special milestone week offered many highlights starting with the Leisure Activities, followed by the Opening Conference, workshops and keynotes and crowned by the Premium Evening.

A compelling Opening Conference

In a packed Grand Auditorium, TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen opened the landmark conference and retraced the history of three decades of duty free and the challenges confronted and met, giving an idea of the industry’s vivacity.
The retired General Colin Powell, 65th US Secretary of State addressed the notions of leadership in challenging times. He said: “Leadership in challenging times means investing in people”, an advice inspired by his brilliant military and political experience.

Alexandre de Juniac, CEO Air France – KLM, gave his insight on the challenges facing the airline business. He could speak of experience as he just had to face the longest strike in the airline company history.

On Monday morning, after the conference, TFWA’s local partners kindly offered a stunning giant cake and Champagne to celebrate in style the 30th birthday. Colin Powell and Alexandre de Juniac joined the Mayor of Cannes David Lisnard and the members Cannes Prestige Association and associations of beaches, taxis, hotels… who wished TFWA a very happy birthday.
