De Vries Chateau Roubine

Mieke De Vries Exhibition at Château Roubine

In the heart of the Var Provence, between Lorgues and Draguignan, Château Roubine, whose Côtes de Provence wines are honored with the title of Cru Classé since 1953, is one of the oldest vineyards in France. For its summer exhibition, Château Roubine presents Mieke De Viers, Dutch artist painter Provencal by adoption.

The Templar Knights , former owner of Château Roubine, gave it to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in 1307. Its strategic position on the Roman road called “Giulia” and its particular beauty made it an absolute must. The Templar shield traces the history of the estate: the Dragon, animal symbol of Draguignan, the Lion, animal symbol of Lorgues, protected by the rays of the sun of Provence.
Its owner, Valerie Rousselle, knows how to use with respect the best of nature to produce wines of exceptional quality whose reputation has already been around the world. The estate covers 130 hectares, including 72 hectares of vineyard which has a natural drainage – hence the origin of the name “Roubine”, meaning “stream” in Provencal. The production excels by an optimal combination between technology and the correct application of sustainable agriculture.
Valerie Rousselle continues to mix culture and viticulture by offering a rich cultural program, such as Voix en Vigne Lyric Festival (9 and 11 July) and offers all year round painting exhibitions to her customers as part of the program Art and Wine.
The summer exhibition is enhancing Provence through the works of Dutch painter artist Mieke De Vries, showcasing an exhibition mixing fresh and mouth-watering fishes with landscapes of colorful Provencal villages, nestled in the countryside greenery. The exhibition evokes a holiday in Provence with its range of perfumes, gastronomy, wines and the characteristic deep colors of the region under the golden light of the sun.
Born in Amsterdam, Mieke De Vries lives and works in Flayosc, a small Provencal village of Dracénie. From 14 to 20 years of age, she took private drawing lessons with Rinus Duin, a famous Dutch painter. She studied painting and free graphic art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, the most important training academy on painting in Holland. After completing her academic degree, she received additional training as drawings and textile application professor. Apart from her artistic career, Mieke De Vries teaches drawing at 16-21 years old students and provides individual drawing tuition in her workshop.
Mieke De Vries has exhibited in Amsterdam, The Hague, Stompwijk, Abcoude, Leiden and in many cities of Provence such as Les Arcs, Lorgues, Flayosc, Theoule sur Mer, St Antonin du Var and St. Tropez.
