A setting for many film shoots

The five-star Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa nestles between the majestic bays of Cook and Opunohu. A legend tells that a large lizard (moo) yellow (rea) would have opened these bays with two strokes of the tail. Cook’s Bay is a place full of history. In 1777, Captain James Cook‘s ships – Discovery and Resolution – arrived through the Tareu Pass in Opunohu Bay. Cook described this anchorage as one of the best natural harbors he has seen in the South Sea Islands.
The bay of Opunohu which means “Belly of the Poisson Pierre” is one of the most beautiful sites in Moorea, offering a spectacle on the peaks of Mou’aroa overlooking waters with bewitching reflections. This setting served as shooting locations for many films, including The Bounty in 1983, with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins, A Love Affair in 1993, with Warren Beatty, and Les Faussaires in 1994, with Gérard Jugnot and Jean-Marc Barr.
