Two years after having shown Hara-Kiri : death of a samourai, Japanese director Miike presents an urban western based on novel by Kazuhiro Kiuchi, author of the manga Be Bop Highschool.

A powerful and revenge-thirsty multi-billionnaire Ninagawa places an ad in Japan main newspapers reading: “Kill Kunihide Kiyomaru, and I will pay you 1 billion Yen”. This reward, placed on the head of Kiyomaru, a man he believes to be his granddaughter’s killer, will make him a target attracting many assassins. Kiyomaru  turns himself in at the Fukuoka Police Station and four officers are dispatched to bring him safely back to Tokyo, risking their own  life as potential killers lie in wait on the 1 200km journey.  Will justice triumph, or revenge prevail?
After Miike, achieving such a spectacular action film was a prowess, above all in Japan. This difficulty incited him to take on the challenge. Shield of Straw is starring Takao Osawa, Nanako Matsushima and Goro Kishitani.

A Castle in Italy” by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi

A chronicle of a family of Italian haute bourgeoisie in process of disintegration, A Castle in Italy shows a world coming to an end as, at the same time, a love story is beginning.

The destiny of an upper-class Italian is falling apart as they are forced to sell their family castle. Meanwhile, Louise meets Nathan and allows herself to dream again. Louise and Nathan are like two people who are drowning and cling to each other to save themselves. The story also talks about her sickly brother and their mother. It is as much the story of a family as a love story.
As an actress, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi won a Best Female Hope Cesar for “Normal People Have Nothing Exceptional” in 1994 and was crowned twice in Venice for “Nothing to Do” by Marion Vernoux  and François Ozon’s “5×2”. As a director, she was awarded the Prix Delluc for First Film in 2003 and Un Certain Regard Special Jury Prize for” Actresses” in 2007. This is the first time that Valeria Bruni Tedeschi is chasing the Palme d’Or.
A Castle in Italy is starring Valeria Bruni Tedeschi herself, Louis Garrel, Xavier Beauvois and Céline Salette.
