The Princess Cruises company, known worldwide thanks to the famous television series “The Love Boat” had not built boats since 2008. Its latest, the Royal Princess came to anchor in the turquoise waters of the bay of Cannes for a one-day inaugural call.
The Cannes harbor and the CCI Nice Côte d’Azur welcomed on October 15 one of the largest and most innovative cruise ship : the Royal Princess, baptized on June 13 at the Southampton by Princess Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge and wife of Prince William, godmother and symbol of the spirit “Princess”.

This new flagship of the seas poured over a during a good part of the morning streams of passengers who came mainly from the United States, Canada and the United States, to discover the most beautiful cities of the Mediterranean. The visit in Cannes was completed by a trip to Monaco for early risers or a visit of the capital of Cinema for late sleepers. To celebrate the event, the one-day tourists have landed on a red carpet and were greeted by a Provençal folk music group which ensured the animation on the dock throughout the day.

The gourmands will irresistibly be attracted by the largest floating pastry shop in the world that will offer them to enjoy delicious treats that will complete this dream holiday, installed in comfortable chairs with panoramic views of the Croisette. Yesterday the windows opened onto Barcelona. Tomorrow they will offer a view of Livorno.
On the main deck, endless rows of chairs are lining pools with elegant shapes topped with giant screens. One of the main attractions of this cruise ship is the Seawalk, a glass walkway where passengers can look down to see the ocean beneath their feet.
17 decks and 3,600 passengers
This giant of the seas, the biggest cruise ship in the Princess Cruises fleet, was delivered in May by the Fincantieri shipyard. It measures 330 meters long and 38.4 meters wide and has a tonnage of 141,000 GT. Able to reach speeds of 22 knots, boasting 17 decks, the ship can accommodate 3,600 passengers aboard, 1,346 crew and has 1,780 cabins, including 1,438 with balcony and sea view.
Cruises figures: this season, 348 stops were scheduled in Nice, Villefranche, Cannes or Antibes. A total of 684,000 cruise passengers visited the French Riviera. A season deemed “average” compared to the previous one, which was excellent. The cruise activity generates 40 million euros in the Riviera economy.
