Agecotel 2012 Presentation

Agecotel 2012 will host international cooking competitions

On October 27, during a press conference at Villa Massena in Nice, organizers Frédéric Jourdan-Gassin, president of Nicexpo, Paul Odadia, Director of Agecotel, and contributors have presented the 2012 edition of the Agecotel show. With the growing success of its previous editions, Agecotel 2012 in Nice firmly opens on the Mediterranean and cultivates its difference: a sun-like warm show, friendly because of human scale, facilitating contacts while remaining professional. A show in the light of the South, smelling of good olive oil and scrubland. For its 25th edition, the Agecotel show has definitely found its bearings in the restauration and hostelry trade show. It brings together the CHR and collectivities seeking to accelerate their performance and decidedly turns on the Mediterranean, its soils, its products, and gastronomic traditions. Prestigious chefs acknowledge that: the sponsors of this new edition are Jacques and Laurent Pourcel, founders in 1988 (at 23 years) of "The Garden of Senses" in Montpellier and recently the restaurant "Sea Senses" on the roof of the 5-star "The Five" in Cannes. Twenty years later and three stars after, these French cuisine globe-trotters  offer a know-how and generosity. From Sunday 22 to Wednesday 25 January, 2012, at their side, Lea Linster, the first starred "Cheffe" and first woman winner of the Bocuse d'Or, Yves Thuriès, Stéphane Raimbault, Laurence Salomon and Nicole Rubi will sponsor international competitions that are now dates in the profession, besides the usual variety of demonstrations, conferences, events and performances. On the last edition, the Agecotel show had over 210 exhibitors, an increase of 20% between 2008 and 2010 on two areas: Food and Equipment. More than 14,000 visitors have walked its aisles during the 4-day event, more than half of them decision makers (CEO, Manager or Chef de Cuisine).

On Sunday, January 22, brothers Jacques and Laurent Pourcel will chair the "Golden Pearl" which became "the First Oyster Sellers World Cup" with the participation of international candidates. Applicants will be judged on technical quality in the preparation of seafood (shellfish) and aesthetic presentation of the plate of seafood.

The competitions:

On Monday, January 23, brothers Jacques and Laurent Pourcel will chair the competition "Côte d'Azur Golden Neptune", in which 12 candidates will have to make eight dishes cooked with abalone, prawns and monkfish. The jury will consist of 6 starred chefs or MOF (Best Craftsman in France) chefs and 6 gastronomy journalists. It will determine the best dish on criteria such as feeling of taste, aesthetics, creativity and originality, the preparation and professional mastery.

On Tuesday, January 24 will be held the fourth "National Trophy of Cuisine Francis Trocellier" on the theme of "Dressed Mediterranean Bass with its sauce and three toppings" inspired from the "Guide Culinaire" by Auguste Escoffier. Competition for professionals over 21 years, coordinated by Gerard Oudin in collaboration with the Delegation of the Catalan & Occitan International Escoffier's Disciples.

On Wednesday 25 January, the competition of "The Golden Hand in the Feminine" will be chaired by Lea Linster and co-chaired by Laurence Solomon and Nicole Rubi. Based on certified organic ingredients, vegetables and fish, it will decide between six pupils from hotel schools and lycées in the morning and six Cheffes in the afternoon. Their preparation will be evaluated by a jury entirely composed of women: 6 professional Cheffes and 6 journalists.
