Cannes Major Projects by «BCG»
Bernard Cornut-Gentille, Cannes Mayor builder
As part of the 20th anniversary of the death of the mayor who marked the history of city, the municipality has decided to honor him by exposing in the Town Hall numerous photographs and archival documents on the major projects he has set up during his deputy mandates 1958 - 1968) and mayor (1959-1978). "BCG", as the Cannois liked to call him, made the the city know a great expansion.
This first magnitude politician's influence will open wide the doors of departmental and national administrations and provide financing for the development of the city. This is the time of the great works which, in a few months, will change the face of Cannes. Spurred by a dynamic municipality, large projects which had only dreamed of, will take shape. Cannes will really take off. It is first the restructuring of the Croisette promenade in nice double track, with expansion and modernization of the beaches. It is also and above all the diversion of the N7 in coverage of the railway. The construction of kindergartens, child care, schools, social apartment buildings in Cannes La Bocca, the creation of community centers follow. He built the first purification station of the city and finally began work on many embellishments and modernization. All fields are concerned: from the roads to education not to mention sports and culture. He is one of the first in France who will establish a municipal police force to compensate inadequate staffing of the national police.
