Calais in The Heart of Europe

Time for Success: Calais’ new retail park project

At MAPIC 2012, the Calais and region development agency was presenting the ambitious retail park by GAM. On the stand of Calais Promotion, the society GAM, GSE Group has previewed, in the presence of Natacha Bouchard, Senator-Mayor of Calais and President of Calais Promotion, its commercial implementation project: in partnership with REDIM, land development subsidiary of GSE, GAM plans to build a retail park of 10,000 m2 on the area of Les Cailloux in Calais, near But and Décathlon. The company will offer a minimum of 8,000 m2 of retail space consisting of 8-10 modular surfaces cells.

Faced with a magnificent model showcasing the new urban development projects in the city, Natacha Bouchard presented the project as a quality technician before an audience of developers and real estate operators, explaining she was willing to make her city a livable city designed for people where everyone can feel at home. Her presence on the stand Calais Mapic promotion was motivated by her desire to advance the development of the city so dear to her heart. A city she loves above all, she wants to make clean, modern and welcoming. No doubt with this talented, sensitive and energetic woman that beautiful projects will emerge soon from the ground to the delight of Calaisiens and tourists, providing in addition job creations, a significant matter in a depressed region with the loss of its lace industry.

She also reminded the ideal accessibility of the city through a bypass road from the A16 which serves the future shopping center in both directions, and a new roundabout irrigating Décathlon and But offering an excellent visibility for the new retail park, as well as the construction of a 377 parking spaces landscaped with pedestrian walkways facilitated by alleys linking the different supermarkets.

Calais capitalises on its strategic geographical location which makes it the gateway to continental Europe for the United Kingdom. This frontier region borders on the Benelux countries to the East and Great Britain to the North. Situated on a major European transport route, it is a central point for traffic between the United Kingdom and North-Western Europe. The region boasts an interconnected, modern infrastructure network  which would make the city and its shops a strategic point for many visiting customers to find beautiful stores and avoid them to go elsewhere to make their purchases.

With an ambitious urban transformation policy, ranging from urban renewal, the creation of eco-districts or the construction of tertiary and tourism oriented equipments, the territory has capacities such as activity areas in development: Les Cailloux and Rivière Neuve, as well as private offers downtown. During the three-day global event, Calais Promotion scored its willingness to increase its visibility on a national and international scale, with key players in the industry and stand out from other communities.
