Cannes International Games Festival: an intergenerational festival open to all
The International Games Festival welcomed gaming enthusiasts and curious of all ages. All playful universes were gathered at the Cannes Palais des Festivals on an area of 14,000 sqm, from the famous video game culture, through the classics, to the latest simulation games, board, or the trading cards. Avant-premières or discoveries, hundreds of games were free for testing during three days, from February 17 to 19, 2012. Editors and over 250 authors mingled with the public and shared their passion of the game during initiations, demonstrations and crazy parties. The International Games Festival allows visitors to learn the rules of the great classical disciplines: Backgammon, Rummy, Bridge, Othello ®, Coinche, Chess, Tarot, Belote, Scrabble ®, Checkers, Dominoes... One could as well (re)discover forgotten or ignored games: Awale, Bakugan, Carrom, Indian Billiards Shogi, Mahjong... Confronting champions was also possible. In the world of video games, all platforms were represented, along with Xbox 360 Kinect, Wii, DSi, PS3 and 3DS. Thus, fans could indulge their favorite games such as Just Dance 3, Rock Band 3, Bomberman, Blak Eyed Peas Experience, Forza Motorsport 4... and discover the exclusive games like Soulcalibur V and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
The Festival also hosted numerous tournaments and welcomed competitors from 5 different continents, a total of 15,000 entries was expected for all these meetings. From Monday, February 13 tournaments began with Chess, Checkers, Scrabble ®. As for card games, Bridge, Tarot, Belote, Rummy and Coinche, cards were dealt from Wednesday, February 15. For video games, the best gamers worldwide gathered for the 5th edition of the World Cup Game, and competed solo or in teams around fighting games like Super Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Maverl vs Capcom 3, The King Of Fighters XIII, Mortal Kombat...
