Cannes Regates Royales 2011

Cannes, capital of classic yachting.

The Croisette has again vibrated to the rhythm of Régates Royales – Trophée Panerai who celebrate their 33 year of history. This is one of the oldest races since the first edition took place in 1929 in honor of King Christian X of Denmark. With a fleet of over sixty Dragon and an armada of nearly eighty classic yachts, some of which were blithely over a hundred years old ! A colorful show which welcomed Manitou for the first time, the plan Olin Stephens of President John F. Kennedy and Eilean, an old 1936 sailing ship of Scottish descent, who was abandoned on the island of Antigua after many crossings (a total of 150.000 miles - six times around the earth) and have had her hour of glory when a clip of the group Duran Duran was recorded on board. Recovered by the President of Panerai, Angelo Bonati and restored for two years in an Italian shipyard, in Viaregio, with traditional wood and steel from the epoch, he became the brand ambassador with 24 meters long and a 30 meters high mast, her bridge of Burmese teak and mahogany interior. Cannes has now turned to the glorious years of yachting by hosting the gaff rigs, schooners, cutters, sloops, yawls, Class J, last century monotypes, 12mJI... Five days of regattas off the Lerins islands for a fleet distributed into seven categories by size, age, sailboat rigging. An exceptional collection as the largest and most famous yachts of the last century came to a fight like the majestic Elena (55m, Nathanael Herreshoff plan), Cambria (40m, William Fife Plan), Mariquita (38.20 m, William Fife Plan) , Sunshine (38m, William Fife Junior level), the Class J Shamrock V (36.50 m Charles Nicholson plan), or both Moonbeam III and Moonbeam IV (31m, William Fife Plan).
