Forum Cannes21 concrete measures
The 2011 Cannes21 Forum was held on the Sainte-Marguerite Island on Saturday, October 15, 2011. The municipality had an update on actions taken and future on sustainable development issues as part of its action plan Cannes21. This meeting marked the beginning of the third year of this City's flagship project. The City of Cannes program of actions for sustainable development was recognized "Local Agenda 21" (for the fist time in the Alpes Maritimes) under the national strategy for sustainable development. This national recognition, established for three years, rewards the efforts and the approach undertaken by the municipality for more than two years. The city holds regular follow-up workshops that allow its residents to monitor, adjust and enhance the planned activities. Cannes Agenda 21 has just achieved its second year of implementation based on five themes: Preserving the living environment, Moving otherwise, Increase solidarity, Build a city for all and Be exemplary together. Fifty two actions have already been made and forty-two are in progress. The City has offered boat tickets to Cannes inhabitants wishing to participate in Forum 21 on the Sainte Marguerite Island. After the presentation of the work made during the 2010/2011 period by Pascale Vaillant, Deputy to the mayor, in charge of Environment, and reflections on the program for the coming year, Mr. Bernard Brochand, Deputy Mayor of Cannes, invited everyone to continue to preserve the environment and continue to build the future of the city, for the planet and humans. The day continued with a picnic and recreational and environmental discovery activities in the afternoon.
