Gilles Jacob President Photographer

Gilles Jacob’s Photo Exhibition on the Croisette

Gilles Jacob, president of the Festival de Cannes, presents on the Croisette sixty four photos, taken "for fun", primarily at the ceremony of the Festival red carpet before films screenings. Of course, Gilles Jacob has a unique advantage: perched on top of the red carpet, he welcomes the stars that walk up to him and thus benefits from an unparalleled perspective. Of course, his training (he was film critic), his work in movies (he directed documentaries) and in publishing (he writes novels) bring him the artistic way of seeing things. Of course, he has moments of complicity with the stars he has known for a long time and frequent during the evenings and he is with the Jury at the Villa Domergue. Of course, he always carries with him his "little digital camera or mobile phone" to capture unexpected moments during the Festival or at a party. Of course, all this makes him special. But even if Gilles Jacob denies being a real photographer, but rather takes pictures for fun, he shows real talent as a photographer. Gilles Jacob has the photographer's eye and a good one. This can be seen when photographing celebrities: Sharon Stone surprised and delighted to be photographed on arriving at the top of the stairs or Quentin Tarantino, Woody Allen, Sean Penn or Robert de Niro… But his talent is also displayed in his malicious self-portraits or a view through the glass of a car pearly with drops of rain, or a seagull perched at his desk window with the bay of Cannes in the background.
