Idef in Cannes: the place to B like Boost Business !
From June 28-30, 2011, the IDEF (Interactive & Digital Entertainment Festival) organized by the S.E.L.L. (the French Entertainment Software Publishers Association) and realized by the trade fairs and shows organizer Comexposium, took place in Cannes Palais des Festivals, "The Place To Be". This festival is bringing together more and more participants – buyers, publishers, console and component manufacturers, and distributors in the video game market – to this Interactive & Digital Entertainment main European B2B event. With over 3,000 participants, the presence of the largest buyers in the market, the exceptional environment of the city of Cannes, together with Southern Europe being honored, IDEF provides a festive and friendly meeting place to discover new products and prepare end-of-year sales plans. During this 6th edition, IDEF attracted participants from 12 countries, who came to discover the novelties showcased by the exhibitors as well as to feel the pulse of the market. If, as usual in case of crisis, the future of the market is questioned, forecast figures for 2012 are optimistic: the market should see a 13% growth and online market is expected to leap up almost 50%. The announced arrival of new consoles: Nintendo's Wii U, Sony's PS Vita and the development of 3D games launched for Nintendo 3DS, should boost sales, served by a unlimited designers' creativity matching young and adults' increasing appetite for gaming. In addition, the amazing realism of the scenery, with by instance, Activision's Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 or Warhammer's Spacemarine, should fascinate many gamers. Sega sticks to the news by having Super Mario taking part in all disciplines of the London 2012 Olympics. Let us hope that France, as the biggest consumer country in Europe with a turnover of around 2,1 billions Euro this year, will significantly contribute to pull up the video game economy. But the video game industry shows itself generous: the traditional 5 km Charity Race brought together some 300 runners who donated 60,000 Euro to the French Centre for Childhood Protection. After sports and business efforts, everybody relaxed at the Idef Party on the Martinez beach until late at night.
