Exhibition for Japan at Carlton Gallery

Cannes Carlton Gallery exhibits for relief in Japan.

Works by Bernard Buffet, Kanushi Masa Yoshikawa, Yoko Grandsagne, Toshiko, Kanno, Reis, Shimen, Patrick Gerola, Val, Def, Viéliria, are exhibited at the Cannes Carlton Gallery

The Carlton Gallery pays tribute to victims of the powerful earthquake that struck the northern region of Japan, followed by a tsunami that devastated an area of more than five miles inland, carrying in its wake the lives of more than thirty thousand people, destroying families and leaving the survivors in the greatest distress. More than a million residents were evacuated because of dangerous radioactive leakage from the plant in Fukushima and are still not relocated. Children have lost their parents and some have no family.  It is difficult to remain indifferent to such tragedy and not to admire the resilience and courage of these out of the ordinary people. The Carlton Gallery with the assistance of Ms. Yoko Grandsagne decided to organize an exhibition and sale on the topic of Japan, whose profits will be donated to Ms. Yuki Fujimori, Director of the Sendai Academy, to help and finance studies of five children this disaster left orphaned.

Our second photo here shows Mr. Masatsugu Okutani is the 25th successor of Yabuhara Jinja at Nagano prefecture in Japan. The Jinja was founded in 680, and the family handed down the tradition generation to generation for more than 800 years. Mr Okutani helped at the exhibition, selecting the works of art with the artists and organising their transportation.

Bernard Buffet. Bernard Buffet has the place of honor in the exhibition, represented by a painting entitled, "Nagoya Castle", 180cm x 162cm on loan from Maurice Ida Garnier. The benefit will be fully handed over to the five children of Sendai. Bernard Buffet has been exclusively exhibited in the Carlton Gallery for over 30 years;  exceptional paintings by this artist are presented on the first floor picture rails.

Yoko Grandsagne. This visual artist born in Nara in Japan, has lived in France since 1979, first in Paris and Nice or she sets up his new workshop in 2005. Committed visual artist, she is a member of the Monegasque National IAA to UNESCO, leader of the Rimpa Art and Founding President of the Association Art Museum. First in one's year of the Faculty of Education at Kyoto State University, she is selected by the Japanese Education to pursue studies abroad. She then chooses the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris where she specializes in the fresco and deepens her knowledge of traditional techniques of European Art Mural. She already bears in mind the idea that will haunt her during her artistic career: the modernization of traditional Japanese Art. After these studies, she joined in 1983 and for six years, the fashion house Christian Dior in Paris, as the first Japanese designer to designer accessories for women, under the direction of Marc Bohan. She has exhibited in Monaco, at Monegasque National Committee IAA to UNESCO, in 2010 at the Castle of the Terraces in Cap d'Ail, and in numerous galleries.

Kanushi Masa has some beautiful pieces of lacquerware from the region of Kiso-So and the village of Irassawa in Japan, made out of elm, a very hard wood.

Yoshikawa, winner of the prize of the gallery Michido, the most prestigious gallery in Japan, is also represented. He works on a support of Japanese paper mounted on canvas, covered with a 12 to 20 millimeter thick paint. Once dry, the artists paints landscapes on it, which gives an absolutely great result when all the colors are emerged. He is so successful that all his paintings have been sold, forcing the Carlton Gallery to have some others brought in, which will be exhibited from August 25.

Toshiko. The artist with an international career, Toshiko, is also present. This artist was born in Kyoto in Japan. On her first exhibition she won her first award from the Mayor of Kyoto; in 1959 her career has been crowned with numerous awards including in 1968, prices the contemporary calligraphy in Tokyo, 1977, price of Fine Arts in Tokyo, in 1980 the price of oil painting at the Grand Palais in Paris and at Joan Miro competition in Spain. Toshiko as well has participated to many exhibitions worldwide.

Hachiro Kanno. A strange lyricism runs through the works of Hachiro Kanno and opens the soul to the sublime forms via song and dance. No sweeping gesture in a single run, trying to reach infinity, but rather a break in the continuity of the work completed, such as the recently worked paper triptychs. Three panels that together form a composition. The artist wants by representing them, to separate them slightly from each other to break through by the white, empty spaces, the unity of the painted surface. For Hachiro Kanno, beauty only makes sense in its report to the ephemeral. His work of art is a journey of initiation.

Reis, a professor of calligraphy is an artist well known in Japan; he has won the Maurice Ravel prize in Monaco in 2011. Four paintings of this artist are present at the exhibition.

Shinsen Hashimoto was born in 1935, he studied with the late master Shisen Shimaya, painting with India ink with the master Ding Guang Jia and calligraphy with the master Setsunan M. Kondo. Since 1983, the artist traveled extensively in China, to develop cultural exchanges and in various countries of the world such as those making up the Silk Road and in Yemen to realize drawings. In 1981 following an investment in an art exhibition held in Paris, France, Hashimoto Shisen practices his activities in many countries abroad, he plays the role of ambassador of friendship in over 60 countries around the world to promote international trade and cultural arts. Numerous exhibitions both in Japan and abroad have marked his career.

Masatsugu Okutani. Were also presented Masatsugu Okutani winner of the gallery Michido prize, the most prestigious gallery in Japan. He works on a support of Japanese paper mounted on canvas, between 12 to 20 millimeters of thick paint that he lets dry and then paints the landscape on it, which gives results absolutely beautiful when all the colors stand out.

Patrick Gérola was born in Brussels in 1959. Graduate from the academy of fine Arts in Brussels. Afterwards, he joins the Mudra Company from Micha Van Hoecke, artist director of the school of choreographies from the french Maurice Béjart. This one is outstanding in the art of ballet with an oriental touch. Patrick Gerola left Brussels to go live and work in Japan in 1983. There, he met his future companion, Tomomi Hida. Here the artist presents a superb picture set with precious stones.
