Louis German Exhibition

Louis German - Cannes painter of the sea and light at Espace Miramar

Born in Carpentras (Vaucluse) in 1863, Louis German arrives in the Cannes country in the 1880s. Good at drawing, he worked as a painter and decorator on ceramic in Vallauris at Jerome Massier's, before definitively settling in Cannes in 1906 and devoting himself to full time painting. His talent excels in oil, gouache and more in watercolor, in all sizes and in various media: canvas, cardboard, wood, paper, postcards, satin for the banners of battles of flowers in Cannes. And in all genres: flowers, landscapes, seascapes, still lives. The sea is his favorite theme. His fishing boats, tartans and "pointus", with stylized and dynamic characters, often have the Suquet and the Esterel as backdrop.
