With its new ultramodern building, its 845 beds and places and 55 000 m2, the Cannes hospital is the first healthcare facility in western department of Alpes-Maritimes. After 7 years of work, this new hospital provides a guarantee of quality and performance. It is also the expression of a new image of an urban hospital, integrated in its city. The new Cannes hospital, "the first hospital in France to be totally equipped with optic fiber," according to his direction, has 845 beds. Its construction has costed 230 million euros and the minister has saluted the municipality exceptionally rare investment with a contribution of five million euros. The Cannes hospital welcomes 85,000 patients, of which 20% come from around the Cannes area or are tourists. Mr Bernard Brochant, Deputy-Mayor of the city had tears in his eyes by starting his inaugural speech, because he said that day is a day of celebration and joy, which ended three years of waiting and finally kept promises. Then, Labour Minister Xavier Bertrand said during his inaugural speech that he found the hospital very beautiful, but that its major quality was the much better taking of patients into care. He also assured that efforts would be done by the staff to cope with the development of the activity generated by the introduction of this new modern and efficient establishment. He also congratulated Cannes new hospital for providing better support for patients, especially in the field of maternity and cardiac surgery, two services he visited. The minister also praised the cooperation established by the private sector, and the networking with hospitals in Grasse and Antibes, the key to the future, he said. Cannes new hospital was built by architect Jerome Brunet and its first stone was laid in 2003. The building has a surface of 55,000 square meters, with a length of 180 meters and comprising five floors, it offers 827 beds and employs a total of 1800. It should be noted the presence of Gerard Bourdin, who on this opening, mounted on the stage and offered Labour Minister Xavier Bertrand his book entitled "The Everest, health, life," in honor of his ascent of Everest that he sadly failed, obliged to give up because of fatigue, close to the summit, but he promised to climb it again. He wrote his book to prove that cancer is not an invincible disease, but a victory over the disease.
