The Rotary Taste Contest in Mougins Awards Ceremony
As part of the 6th Festival of Gastronomy "Les Etoiles de Mougins" held from September 16 to 18, 2011, under the presidency of Eric Fréchon (Chef of Le Bristol in Paris) and with the support of Richard Galy, Mayor of Mougins, the Mougins Rotary Club has organized the Taste Contest. The competition, of which Jean Fajeau, starred chef and Meilleur Ouvrier de France 1991 has been the coordinator and technical advisor, helped to highlight the students of catering schools in the region, the Faculty of Trades in Cannes La Bocca, the Lycée Escoffier, in Cagnes sur Mer and Hotel School Paul Augier in Nice. Students from these schools have prepared 800 verrines, with several compositions that have been proposed to many participants of the contest that came on the stand of the Rotary Club. Participants were given by members of the Club (but also Lucie, student exchange), a tray of two verrines of which they should recognize the key ingredients. Participants were thus able to appreciate the originality, flavor and quality of compositions produced by students of catering schools. Among them the Club was able to welcome Mr Frédéric Lefebvre, Secretary of State for Tourism, Dominique-Claire Mallemanche, sub-prefect in Grasse and Julien Lepers, the famous host of the program "Questions for a champion." Hotly contested, the contest was with many prizes: a meal in a large restaurant of the region and lots of gourmet products. All in all, more than 400 competitors competed and put their taste buds at work. A jury composed of two starred chefs, two professionals of taste and two Rotarians then ruled on the choice of flavor, originality and quality of the verrines made by three students of catering schools. Students were able to measure how their work was appreciated by both participants and their elders. The benefit achieved with this operation will allow the Club to make donations to deserving students to help them in their career.
The Mougins Rotary Club has welcomed the winners at the Mas du Grand Vallon to award them with diplomas and give medals to the persons who helped to organize the Rotary Taste Contest during the Etoiles de Mougins.
