Nights of the Stars in Nice
Nights of the Stars in Nice
Stars are nice to look at.
The 21st Nights of Stars, organized by the association Aquila, whose efforts led the city of Nice to become partner this year, took place at Parc du Castel des Deux Rois on August 5 and 6, 2011 from 8 pm and to midnight. Both evenings were a great opportunity for many children passionnate for astronomy to observe the Moon, Saturn, double stars, star clusters and nebulae. Indeed, Aquila made freely available telescopes from 8 to 40 cm in diameter, for an audience of curious about the sky, who can not afford such telescopes, and can thus watch the rain of shooting stars that generally speaking, brush our planet Earth between the months of July and August each year. Two lectures, one on Friday 5 on the theme "The Place of Man in the Universe", given by Cedric Jacob, Doctor of Science of the Universe and Saturday 6, "Journey into the Universe" by Matthew Conjat, Doctor of Sciences of the Universe, allowed adults eager to learn to further their knowledge on the eventful life of the cosmos. Each could also bring their equipment to photograph the moon and constellations, on a sweet Riviera night. Young and adults had during these two nights of celestial journey, eyes filled with stars and it was also the signal for a great poular feast that mobilized more than 400 associations throughout France. The party over, everyone made appointment for the next night out in November. Finally, a workshop of constellations drawing and other celestial compositions was proposed to the young, a quiz to test your knowledge of stellar constellations and a puzzle was made available to learn to recognize the stars, while learning the mythological legends associated with the constellations.
