Carnaval de Nice King of Sport
Carnaval de Nice King of Sport
The Carnaval de Nice: one of the three largest and most prestigious Carnival in the world with Rio and Venice
Most important event on the Riviera in winter, and in France, the Carnaval de Nice is part of the history of Nice. Present from the middle ages, it will celebrate its 140 years in its current form next year. The Carnival is a great popular fair. Bearer of traditions, he has managed to grow over the years, keeping its essence while integrating the technicalities and aspirations of today. For 3 years, a great revival has been set in all areas of this great spectacle, particularly in its consideration of sustainable development, new technologies, aesthetic quality and even, this year of sport, echoing the concerns of the city, of today's metropolis.
Theme for 2012: King of the sport. The 2012 edition is open to all sports for twenty days (from February 17 to March 4, 2012). An echo of the London 2012 Olympic as to Nice's sport dynamics, France's, or more broadly of the planet. (For the record, Nice will host: the Sport Victories on February 20 during Carnival; the Figure Skating World Championship, the Stadium, the Francophonie Games, the European Masters Games...) A universal and unifying theme, in the heart of processions, a tribute to all competitions this year. The "corsi" are initiatory journeys in the world of sports and the Olympics where competition, fair play and the concept of effort live go along, but also sport drifts, greed, doping... As is the Sport, the floats are being muscled up and new structures will provide a larger 360 degrees visibility !
The carnival is turning green, following a green approach, attentive to sustainable development as is the city as a whole. Choice for eco-labeled companies and services incorporating recycling come into play for Carnival 2012. After the test of five electric cars in 2011, all cars towing the Batailles de Fleurs (Flowers Battles) will be electric. On each event, the 4 to 5 tons of waste collected by the municipal cleaning service will be recycled.
New technologies are at the heart of the development of Carnival. Thus, the election of the Queen of the Carnaval de Nice was held online, on www.nicecarnaval.com. In 2012, 23,530 Internet users in 57 countries (France, UK, Italy and the United States in the lead) voted for nine young selected women. The Queen of the Carnival is Aurélie and her two dauphines, Elsa and Charlotte.
The King’s cremation, followed by fireworks over the sea, will take place on Sunday, March 4 from 8:00 p.m.
Troops of music and art scene
Become a benchmark for street arts, the Carnival presents 66 groups from around the world that will punctuate the parades, in addition of which comes the BAT - Brigade d’Animation Tribunes (stand animation brigade. 60 classic and street acrobats (stunts, jumps, "urban" balance), stilt walkers, jugglers, acrobats, contortionists and urban dancers (Hip-hop, Street Dance, tectonic), half of them amateurs, combine to multiply the fun. A BATUCADA - percussion group - is also created for the event, it will transmit the pace of corsi.
Batailles de Fleurs (Flower Battles)
The Batailles de Fleurs (Flower Battles) are the Carnival 's poetic spectacle. Its 20 floats are covered with fresh flowers, largely collected from local production, parade on the Promenade des Anglais waterfront. Each float welcomes young mannequins dressed in the theme of Carnival. The costumes are made by the workshop of the Carnival and its four costume designers from the world of entertainment. Young people throw flowers to the public, a total of 25 tons of mimosa and the integrality of the flowers "stitched" by Nice florists on the floats, about 4,000 stems per float.
The carnival parade at night (illuminated Corso)
The 20 floats, whose subjects are devoted to the transgression, gibe at news and society with irony and humor. Mixing cardboard and advanced technology, they are imposing and colorful. Around each of the elements of animation and satellite street art troops complement the show. They are the fruit of the passion of the Carnavaliers issuing from a numerous family generations tradition of master carnavaliers...
