The Relais & Châteaux stand at ILTM was a hive of meetings and exchanges. Established over half a century ago, Relais & Châteaux is an association of the world’s finest hoteliers, chefs and restaurateurs that has set the standard for excellence in hospitality. Relais & Châteaux has redefined luxury hospitality by emphasising holistic experiences that transport its guests, taking them on a sensual journey and introducing them to a deeper, truer understanding of the Art of Living.

The story of Relais & Châteaux begins in 1941 when two former music hall entertainers, Marcel and Nelly Tilloy purchased “La Cardinale”, an estate in the Rhône Valley. In 1952 the Tilloys began recruiting other hoteliers and restaurant owners that shared the same level of quality and excellence and passions for fine cuisine and Art de Vivre. In 1954, this group of kindred spirits merged together to create Relais & Châteaux. With the founding of the Relais & Châteaux association, its member establishments became the place to stay for those seeking fine dining and exceptional surroundings. The Relais & Châteaux philosophy pays particular attention to cuisine: The pursuit of the right flavour should be in perfect harmony with the each unique setting and region. It is a prerequisite for Relais & Châteaux members to have an excellent restaurant and many even have more than one dining establishment, with the total number of restaurants within the 518 members exceeding 800. In the beginning, there were only eight establishments along the road between Paris and the French Riviera. Today, over 500 members in 60 countires are a part of Relais & Châteaux. The year 2012 will see 45 prestigious new establishments join the Relais & Château.The Relais & Châteaux Guide, first launched in 1961, is recognized as a reference book on the world’s finest hotels and restaurants. The 2012 Guide will have a print run of 800,000 and be available in six languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Mandarin. Relais & Châteaux is honoured to announce that Paulo Coelho, acclaimed Brazilian writer and author of The Alchemist, one of the best-selling books of all time, as well as the recently published Aleph, has accepted the role of Ambassador for 2012. In this introduction to the 2012 guide, Coelho draws a parallel between travel and pilgrimage, observing: “Through our contact with others, travelling tells us much about ourselves. In our capacity to adapt, to find the balance between our personality and this new environment, we discover ourselves; indeed, we enrich ourselves.”

The Association's mission is to spread its unique Art de Vivre across the globe by selecting outstanding properties with a truly unique character to create a family of hoteliers and grand Chefs from all over the world who share a passion for and a personal commitment to ensuring their guests are privy to moments of exceptional harmony and experience an unforgettable celebration of the senses.  From the vineyards in Napa valley to the beaches in Bali, from the olive trees in Provence to the lodges in South Africa, Relais & Châteaux offers a chance to explore the Route du Bonheur and discover a special place in a variety of destinations.

As Grasse is the world capital of perfumes, the Relais & Châteaux Chefs had chosen to present on their stands gourmet dishes concocted after a perfume to treat over 300 key world tourism actors to delicious French gastronomy recipes
