Digital Emmy Awards: and the winners are...
The 7th edition of the International Digital Emmy Awards ceremony, organized by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in partnership with Reed MIDEM, took place on Sunday, April 1, 2012 during the MIPTV Opening Festivities at the Martinez Hotel. In front of an audience over 300 international executives from the television, broadband and mobile industries, the Emmy Awards for digital programs in three categories were presented to winners.
Miptv 2012 to inspire deals
Miptv is the spring market with the freshest international showcase of TV - in all its forms offering opportunities to make deals, create new connections through networking and discover new business opportunities. 11,000 participants from TV & Media have attended the show alongside 4,000 buyers from 100 countries. Production was at the heart of Miptv 2012 that recorded an increase of 25% participation of producers in relation to 2011, with 1220 production companies international accredited to date, including 326 newcomers.

ITV Studios Global Entertainment and Lookout Point marked the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic with a Gala Screening and exclusive conversation with the cast and creators about how this ambitious international co-production came to life.
Elle Macpherson - former top model-turned-TV host - addressed MIPTV participants as part of a media keynote showcase. The Australian businesswoman was accompanied by Ben Silverman, founder and Chairman of Electus and Chris Grant, CEO of Electus, who were presenting their new show, “Fashion Star”.
Atlantique Productions (Lagardère Entertainment) and distributor SevenOne International presented the co-production, Le Grand, in which world renowned star and French silver screen actor Jean Reno plays the lead role. Reno was in Cannes for the launch of his first TV series.
As China was Miptv’s country of Honor a growing delegation from China was present this year with over 200 delegates. Numerous Chinese dignitaries were in Cannes including Cao Yin, Deputy Director-General of the International Coorporation Department, SARFT, Luo Ming, Vice President of China Central TV (CCTV) and Liu Wen, Managing Director of the year-old CCTV Documentary Channel (CCTV-9). France Televisions and CCTV signed a draft agreement.
The transformation of the television business was at the heart of this year’s MIPTV and at the centre of most conversations. People around the world are consuming more TV content than ever before, in fact consumption has grown a further six minutes per day to a total of three hours and 16 minutes a day, according to Eurodata TV’s 2011 report, however new technologies are radically changing the way they do it and opening up great opportunities for deep consumer engagement.
During the market the major studios, production companies and broadcasters rubbed shoulders with executives from the likes of Amazon, Hulu, YouTube, Twitter and Google as well as more recent players to have broken onto the scene such as Machinima, Zeebox, Maker studios and NoTube.
A striking Miptv inauguration!
The inauguration of the 49th edition of Miptv took place on Sunday April 1st, in the presence of Cannes Deputy-Mayor Bernard Brochand accompanied by Paul Zilk, CEO Reed MIDEM, the Chinese delegation led by Mr Yin Cao, Deputy Director General, International Cooperation and Department, SARFT, and Mr. Ming Luo, Vice President, CCTV. Happy Birthday Fashion TV!
Fashion TV, the international channel dedicated to fashion shows, fashion models & designers that broadcasts 24 hours a day on satellites and cable has been celebrating their 15th anniversary with a 15th Anniversary Event during the MIPTV Opening Party in Cannes in partnership with Samsung SmartTV. Heineken Brand of the Year with "Open Your World"
During MIPTV, on April 2, HEINEKEN received the 2nd annual MIPTV Brand of the Year Award. As part of MIPTV's Branded Entertainment Programme which run 2-3 April, sponsored by Ogilvy & Mather, Europe's largest brewer Heineken has been selected to receive recognition for its commitment and innovation in the field of branded entertainment.
Elle Macpherson presents Fashion Star in Cannes
Former Top Model of the 80/90s, Elle Macpherson was present at MIPTV 2012, on Monday, April 2, on stage at the Palais des Festivals main auditorium with her two producers, Ben Silverman and Chris Grant, to present her show "Fashion Star", of which she is both executive producer and presenter. This fantastic show she is hosting in the U.S. and has been broadcasted by NBC since mid-March, has already been sold in 75 countries. Sculptural 48-year old Elle Macpherson still deserves the nickname of "The Body"...
Jean Reno takes the stage for "The Great"
Jean Reno, Luc Besson's favorite actor and international star, was present at MIP TV 2012 where he presented at a press conference on April 1, a new cop series called " Le Grand (The Great), in which he plays Jo Le Grand, an elite, meticulous, relentless and suspicious police officer, who investigates mysterious murders in Paris.
France Televisions to Chinese time
At MIPTV, on April 3, was signed a draft agreement between French and Chinese public televisions. This agreement illustrates the strategic intent of France Televisions to approach European and worldwide large groups of public audio visual. To celebrate her marriage to the large Chinese group, owner of forty televisions, Remy Pflimlin, president of FT had made the trip with all the staff of the chains from his group to meet Ming Luo, Vice President of CCTV.
