Chefs au Sommet d’Auron 2024 : the Mountain Gastronomy Festival celebrated high gastronomy from 24 to 29 January 2024 with summits of taste, mountains of flavour, and peaks of gustatory emotion in the heart of the emblematic Mercantour ski resort. Talented chefs and pastry chefs from the Côte d’Azur share moments of authenticity and gastronomic pleasures with tourists and inhabitants of the Haute Tinée. As every year for the past twelve years, loyal and generous partners contribute to the success of the Festival and a reception at Le Blanchon 1600 on the slopes of Auron paid tribute to them on Monday 29th January 2024.

Sharing culinary delights

With the sumptuous peaks of the Mercantour as a backdrop, Les Chefs au Sommet d’Auron have been celebrating Haute Gastronomy for twelve years through events that share culinary delights. A duo flavour alchemists who have been loyal to the Mountain Gastronomy Festival for many years, Victor Delpierre, World Champion Barista/Cocktail 2013, World Champion Coffee in good spirits and Stéphane Mangin, Pastry Chef at Régis and Jacques Marcon‘s three-starred restaurant at Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid, have honoured the twelveth edition of the gastronomic event with their smile and kindness. The Mountain Gastronomy Festival offers a week of culinary demonstrations, workshops and gourmet happy hours at the Salle Rovery. During the Festival, renowned chefs perform culinary feats each evening by concocting gourmet dinners in the resort’s restaurants.

Gourmets are spoiled every evening

Every evening, the restaurants in the resort of Auron, Saint Dalmas le Selvage and Saint Etienne de Tinée welcome into their kitchens renowned chefs and pastry chefs from the region who prepare sumptuous gastronomic dinners at the unique and privileged price of 55 euros per person. These exceptional dinners are enjoyed by the fire in the relaxed and warm atmosphere of the wood-panelled dining rooms of the mountain restaurants. These high altitude dinners and the festival events are organised in partnership with prestigious partners from the wine and culinary world.

Convivial interlude

Numerous chefs and actors from the Mountain Gastronomy Festival gathered around the partners of Les Chefs au Sommet d’Auron 2024 for a presentation of their know-how and a tasting of their products in the warm and wooded setting of Le Blanchon 1600 on Auron central square. Guests, chefs and partners could discover and appreciate the nectars from Domaine d’Estoublon, presented by Champagnes Philipponnat

Flavours and terroirs

As in previous years, the Festival de la Gastronomie de Montagne was supported by a number of prestigious and loyal culinary partners. These included Victor Delpierre, who presented his delicious Chartreuse – and the Andros fruit juices from which he concocted delicious cocktails – including his own creation, Riounet, the official drink of the resort. There are also delicious Red, Rosé and White wines from Château d’Estoublon and sparkling Champagnes Philipponnat. In the professional cocoa section, Xoco Gourmet’s Mayan Red and Cacao De Colombia chocolates were a big hit with guests. Pomona Episaveurs, France’s leading food wholesaler and distributor, also came to present its range of fresh, dry and frozen products. This Nice-based distributor offers quality, traceability and food safety for its products, while respecting the needs and requirements of its customers.

Loyal and committed partners

Colette Fabron, Mayor of Saint Etienne de Tinée – Auron, asked Michel Guillot, President of the Tinée Tourist Offices and organiser of Les Chefs au Sommet d’Auron to represent her. Michel Guillot thanked all the chefs and partners who make this festival possible through their friendship and talent, and contribute, year after year, to its success. His thanks also went to the director of the resort, Frédéric Gilles, to the participating restaurants, sports shops and other establishments that provide valuable assistance to the Festival. Michel asked for a round of applause for Noëlle and David Faure for the success of the Toques Brûlées giant barbecue which delights skiers every year.

The Petits Princes, kings of the snow

With its Famille Plus label, the Auron resort has included its event in a special operation in partnership with the ANMSM (Association des Maires de Montagne): La Montagne Solidaire. Boxes were made available to skiers to encourage them to make a donation to the Petits Princes charity, which makes the dreams of sick children come true. This charity initiative raised 907.31 euros for Petits Princes.

Le Blanchon 1600: tasty food and a warm atmosphere

For 35 years, the brasserie Le Blanchon 1600 on the Plateau de Chastellarès has been an institution for regulars in the Auron resort. A landmark for lovers of good food and mountain enthusiasts, the restaurant room, kitchen, outdoor facilities and all the spaces are designed in a resolutely contemporary mountain chalet style. The gastronomy at Le Blanchon 1600 is a unique culinary experience, showcasing local flavours and seasonal produce by Chef Bouchaib Messaoudi, already renowned for his work at Le Saint Barth. Le Blanchon also offers a catering service in Auron and the surrounding area.

Chefs au Sommet d’Auron, an original recipe

Against the backdrop of the sumptuous peaks of the Mercantour, Les Chefs au Sommet d’Auron follows an original recipe for culinary delights and sharing. Take a line-up of famous chefs, season it with the authentic flavours from our mountain produce, spice it up with a gourmet touch with cooking and pastry-making workshops for adults and children, and add a big ladleful of relaxation, happiness and well-being. Warm up with it the heat of the Toques Brûlées’ friendly embers and add one of their grains of madness at the start of cooking. Finally, sprinkle with snowflakes (or rays of sunshine) and leave to simmer for six days on the summits of the Mediterranean Alps.

The Festival de la Gastronomie de Montagne (Mountain Gastronomy Festival) is the brainchild of members of the Auron and Saint Étienne de Tinée Traders’ Association who, having forged friendships with many of the region’s Michelin-starred chefs, created the festival in February 2012 under the aegis of Michel Guillot, President of the Offices de Tourisme de la Tinée and Krystel Biret, his deputy. A host of chefs and partners have rallied to the cause of this gastronomic event, which has become a must-attend. Les Chefs au Sommet d’Auron is organised by the Association des Commerçants et Artisans d’Auron et Saint Étienne de Tinée with the support of the commune of Saint Étienne de Tinée, the Tourist Office, the SEM des Cimes du Mercantour, the Chambre des Métiers des Alpes-Maritimes and Artisans Arts et Délices.
