The World was designed for a very particular audience: wealthy individuals eager to own a secondary residence on the ocean. Unlike traditional cruises, the passengers are actually co-owners of the home the ship represents. The ship houses 165 private residences, ranging from elegant studios to luxurious three-bedroom apartments, some with fully equipped kitchens and all with spacious private balconies. It is a luxury floating residence, the largest permanently inhabited private ship to date. Launched in 2002, this unique ship combines the opulence of a high-end cruise liner with the stability of an international community sharing interests in discovering the best that global cultures have to offer.

The residents come from over 20 different nationalities, and most use their property on board for a few months each year, although some live there full-time. This private community at sea is the ultimate combination of a luxurious and enriching journey with world-class amenities and facilities. Epicurean pleasures flourish in a selection of gourmet restaurants offering cuisines from around the world, adjacent to four wine cellars containing the most prized nectars in the world. During their journey, the residents welcome winemakers for tastings of local wines – and to complete the wine cellars with signed bottles – chefs for the discovery of the country’s specialties, and local producers. In Cannes, the ship recently welcomed some members of the Ordre Illustre des Chevaliers de Méduse, whose vocation is to promote wines from Provence.

Each year, the yacht visits between 90 and 120 ports in more than 40 countries. The goal is not speed, but immersion: the ship often stays several days, even weeks, in each location to allow for in-depth exploration. One of the major attractions of The World is its itinerary, which is determined by the residents themselves.
