The 8th edition of Etoiles de Mougins on 27, 28 and 29 September in the old village of Mougins staged Mediterranean with guest of honor Chef Gerald Passédat, 3 Michelin stars, operating the restaurant Le Petit Nice in Marseille and with him, the Gourméditerranée association gathering forty Marseille chefs.
Mougins, an unspoilt village on the Côte d’Azur, with its narrow streets unfolding snail-shaped, was already predestined to a gastronomic future. Its fate is now tied with the prestigious culinary chef Roger Vergé, who made this village one of the most beautiful autumn event of haute gastronomy.
Bordering the capital of cinema, Cannes, and Grasse, the perfume capital, Mougins has for this beautiful festival of gastronomy headed south with the 3 Ms theme: Mougins – Marseille – Mediterranean.
Yet all basking in its 2012 success with an edition devoted to media and more than 30,000 visitors in two days, the capital of the “Gastronomie et des Arts de Vivre” (Gastronomy and Art of Living), the most starred city in France wished to keep its momentum going. To do this, it called upon a local boy who knows so well to highlight the culinary know-how and the gastronomy of Provence and Marseille. A chef who makes a difference came to participate in this great Festival of Gastronomy to share and pass on the treasures of the Mediterranean terroir.
This is why the starred Mougins-Marseille association was an obvious one, because this city at the crossroads of Provence and the Mediterranean, European Capital of Culture for 2013, is also the crossroads of civilizations and gastronomy that has always infused in a colorful and fragrant culinary culture. Garlic and olive oil remain the star ingredients of its cuisine that gives pride to vegetables and fish and was able to combine tradition and influences.
This beautiful gastronomic tribute smelling the sun, the sea, the Mediterranean Provence, with its renowned culinary specialties such as Bouillabaisse, bourride, soupe au Pistou, tapenade or petit farcis Niçois, reflects this beautiful Provencal culture of “Eating Well”. And for the most gourmands, this display of beautiful products will have taken them into reveries of baskets filled with colorful provisions accompanied byProvence Rosé flowing out of fountains.
For this Etoiles de Mougins celebration of taste, four demonstrations and tastings spaces showcased more than 100 cooking demonstrations. The village festival workshops with themed areas such as ” Cuisine of the Sun”, kids workshop, “Kitchen of elsewhere”, Food and Wine pairing, opend the viewers curious minds towards vast culinary horizons.
Etoiles de Mougins offered a competition space that hosted the very attended “Taste Competition”, the “Hopes of Mougins” contest or the “Pitchouns” contest, and the “Etoiles de Mougins Amateurs” competition. An exhibition of food photos, a media space, chefs’ Theatre with several-hands demonstrations and four spaces for cooking demonstrations and tastings under the orders of the chefs, a space to discover the wines of the Mediterranean, the library of the Festival of interactive lectures, the chefs’ surprises: the art of cooking in practice and in all its forms!
Fine Israeli wines were showcasing three wines from old vines of Galilee, three exceptional wines from a popular area producing the best wines in Israel, including a Pinot Black YARDEN 2008 aged for 16 months in barrel, fine nose, expression of fruit and minerality. One can find the character of Pinot cepage, a Merlot FLAM 2010, red fruits nose, spices, luscious mouth, rich but elegant, a wine TABOR Adama 100% Cabernet Sauvignon: pleasant nose of red fruits, spices and dried herbs, volume, body and power with tannins and fresh finish.
