From February 15 to March 6 Nice will celebrates 140 years of carnival in the modern era. The King of Five Continents shall reign over the 129th edition of the Nice Carnival, the biggest event of the Côte d’Azur in winter, one of the three largest carnivals in the world.
On February 8, at the House of the Nice Carnival, alongside Rudy Salles, MP, Deputy Mayor, Delegate for Tourism, and Denis Zanon, Director of the Office of Tourism and Congress, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of Nice Metropolis-Côte d’Azur has declared the result of the election of the carnival queen and her dauphines. Fanny Ferrari was elected Carnival Queen and Julie Carnovale, and 1st runner-up Natalia Rebron, 2nd runner up. In this election, more than 21,000 votes were received from 113 countries and more than 49,000 videos were viewed on YouTube!
Carnaval, King of Five Continents will be faithful to its vocation of universality of the world: His Majesty welcomes the Francophonie as guest of honor. Indeed, the 7th Francophonie Games, with more than 75 countries celebrating arts and sport, will take place on His lands from 6 to 15 September, it was so legitimate to reserve this title.
On the Place Masséna, 18 allegorical or burlesque floats will parade, accompanied by 50 Big Heads, animation elements, street arts and international bands. These carnival corsos (parade) will take on the appearance of initiatory journeys. A tour around the world in 90 minutes. And facing the sea, the grace and elegance of the flower battles will remind the power of flowers, and will showcase the floral heritage of the region. Another component of the Carnival, which will be more poetic, inseparable from the other, more ironic.
During his speech the mayor announced the organization of the Carnival Rock’n Roll 10 miles on February 17. This event, taking place in the mythical setting of the Baie des Anges, will combine racing and music and will be organized by the Rock’n Roll Marathon Series, the largest program of running races in the world attracting each year more than 500,000 participants in 30 U.S. and European cities. It will be followed by the Carnival Bath, a charitable event, which brings together volunteers in bathing suit or disguised. A charitable as well, the free Zumba race will take place before the Carnival Bath and allow swimmers to warm up before the big dive.
The program of this edition has been completely redesigned in collaboration with the feasts on the French Riviera, the Lemon Festival of Menton, and the Mimosas Festival in Mandelieu for greater cohesion in the course of events.
