At 76th Cannes Film Festival, the event was the out-of-competition screening of Martin Scorsese’s new film, Killers of the Flower Moon, which has already been announced as a masterpiece.

Killers of the Flower Moon, the return of Martin Scorsese

Director, screenwriter, actor and producer Martin Scorsese has won numerous awards at the Cannes Film Festival, where his films are regularly included in the Official Selection. In 1976, he won the Palme d’Or with Taxi Driver. Ten years after Taxi Driver, he received the Director’s Prize for After Hours. In 1998, he chaired the Jury that awarded the Palme d’Or to Greek director Theo Angelopoulos for Eternity and a Day. Four years later, he presided over the Jury for the Cinéfondation and Short Films, along with Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami. Since 1990, Martin Scorsese has directed the Film Foundation, an organisation dedicated to the preservation, protection and transmission of the world’s film heritage. In this capacity, he has presented numerous films at Cannes Classics.

The Oil Round

In Oklahoma in the 1920s, members of the Osage community no longer dance the Rain Dance, but the Oil Round. The land in the semi-arid region of Oklahoma where these Native Americans, survivors of the Indian wars, were forcibly parked, holds the largest oil deposit in the country.

Serial murders

The Osages got rich, drove luxury cars, sent their children to the most prestigious universities and even had white servants serve them. But in 1921, dozens of Osages were murdered in a series of violent killings known today as the “Reign of Terror”. The investigation is entrusted to the young J. Edgar Hoover, director of the Bureau Of Investigation (BOI), which will become the FBI in 1935.

Based on a real story

Based on the best-selling book The American Note by American journalist David Grann and written by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion.

Released in October 2023

The film is an Apple Studios production, an Apple film and television production subsidiary that produces television series and films exclusively for the Apple TV+ streaming service. It will be released in theaters, in partnership with Paramount Pictures, on 20 October 2023 in the US following a limited release on 6 October 2023. In France, the film will be released on October 18, 2023. Killers of the Flower Moon will then be available worldwide on Apple TV+.
