Lycee Paul Augier Celebrates Centenary

In 2014, the Lycee Hotelier Paul Augier in Nice celebrates its centenary whose official launch took place on January 23, 2014 in the presence of many personalities.

To celebrate this centenary, many festivities are planned during 2014. The most significant event took place on January 17 when twelve BTS students ensured the management and service of the cocktail of the greetings ceremony of the President of the Republic to Ambassadors at the Elysée and the Senate. Another important date: on next November 14, more than 1,200 former sturdents of the school will be expected at Acropolis for the centennial gala dinner.
The Practical School of Trade and Hotel Industry of the Côte d’Azur in Nice was born on March 4, 1914 from the hand of the Minister of Commerce, Industry, Posts and Telegraph of the time, who signed in the order of creation. It was installed at the villa Guiglia on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
In 1920 a school – hotel, ancestor of the application restaurant is created as well as the establishment of a travel scholarship abroad.
In 1936, to meet the needs, a new practice school of commerce and hotel industry of the Côte d’Azur is created. 1970 sees the creation of the section BTS Hotellerie. In 1993, the Lycée Paul Augier settled in the heart of the Arenas business district, opposite Nice Côte d’ Azur airport. The new Regional School of Hotellerie and Tourism of Nice is one of the finest ensembles of hotel industry training in France and Europe. That same year, it took the name Paul Augier, a businessman who owned the famous Negresco hotel in Nice.

Today, the trade school of hotellerie and tourism Paul Augier is an institution at the forefront of innovation (creation of BTS tourism, complementary mention “vegetarian cuisine”… It is recognized and open to the international level, it accommodates nearly 980 students and 230 apprentices. The cooks, staff room and professionals of tourist reception formed at Lycée Hotelier Paul Augier are among the best in France.
Its international vocation has resulted in many partnerships, from USA to Japan via European countries and now China. It is well recognized as a prestigious school in the world. The Lycee Paul Augier offers a wide range of courses to its 1,200 students with its technical center (technical and professional baccalauréats), continuous training (Greta), apprenticeships (CFA), its upper sections (BTS Hotellerie and Tourism) and its recent license “Art and techniques of luxury hotels” and “Guide lecturer”, a license in connection with the University of Nice Sophia- Antipolis.

This excellence is based on a top work tool with 3 restaurants, 3,000 sqm of kitchen, sensory analysis laboratory, computer rooms allowing students to become familiar with the workplace and to provide companies in the sector some innovative knowledge.
Some teachers like the late Renee Graglia, founder of the “Capeline d’Or” (creation of Niçoise cuisine courses) were among the most ardent defender of the local cuisine.
The ceremony was attended by numerous personalities including the Rectrice, Claire Lovisi, Philippe Jourdan, school inspector in the Alpes-Maritimes, Michel Vauzelle, President of the PACA Regional Council, Patrick Allemand, Vice President of the PACA Regional Council, Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, Deputy Mayor of Nice, Charles-Ange Ginesy, vice- president of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, Gaston Franco, MEP, Christine Mirachaux, president of the regional cultural board, Sophie Raisin, vice-president of the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, Jean Montagard, president of the alumni association.

Many starred chef were also present for this ceremony lauching the centenary celebration.
