The Cannes Film Festival competion today evoques the desire of recognition and celebrity with Foxcatcher by Bennett Miller and Maps to the Stars by David Cronenberg.

The biopic tells the tragic story of the relationship between an eccentric billionaire, sponsor of the Foxcatcher wrestling team, and two brothers, wrestling champions.
Mark Schultz, Olympic gold medalist, is invited by heir John du Pont to set up a training camp in his magnificent homestead. The billionaire wants to create a high-range team for winning medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
For Mark, this windfall deal would allow him not to suffer any more of constantly being overshadowed by his brother, Dave. John du Pont wants to win the respect of his peers and especially his mother, by coaching world-famous wrestlers.
As for Mark, he sees in the sponsor a surrogate father, whom he is constantly seeking approval.
Between the du Pont’s growing paranoia and the removal of the two brothers, the three men go to a tragic fate: John murders Dave…

Hollywood, the capital of happiness on film, crystallizes the dreams of all those who want to join the stars on glossy magazines. The film features a Hollywood dynasty. The father, Stafford, made his fortune with his books of self-management and became coach of celebrities.
The mother, Cristina, pushes the career of their son Benjie, a 13-year old child star. The actress Havana dreams of shooting a remake of the film that made her mother, Clarice, a star of the 60s. Jerome Fontana, an attractive limousine driver, is a budding actor. All aspire to fame.
