Liliana Mazure President of INCAA inaugurates MIPCOM 2013 with Reed MIDEM’s Paul Zilk and Laurine Garaude

For the first time, a Latin American country, Argentina, was the “Country of Honour” at MIPCOM 2013, the most important TV programs market in the world.

This distinction awards a worldwide acknowledgement of Argentina’s high quality original contents provided by Argentina audiovisual industry which produced in the last two years more than 3,000 hours of fiction, documentaries, animations and interactive programmes.
Argentina images and flavours were highligted during the Opening Night Party, sponsored by the National Film Board of Argentina in partnership with Pasion Television. Guests were welcome by staff wearing Argentina’s national Footbal team and treated to a buffet of Argentine specialities.
The Argentina delegation in Cannes brought together about 300 professionals, representatives of national firms for a commercial mission, showing the diversity of the production of this country and the richness of the televisual landscape.
Liliana Mazure President of Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA) – the Argentine National Film Board – explained that this mission represents the achievement of the collaborative work of public and private actors, which has enabled Argentina to gradually reach a strategic position in international festivals and markets. Since the National State made the political decision to foster production in all the provinces of the country, the Argentine Film Board (INCAA) has become an active agent in the creation of new international co-production opportunities and novel business formats in the new digital era, supporting the growth and sustainable development of an
expanding industry.
To do business with Argentine, delegates could discover the full range of content and production at the Espacio Argentina, a 100 sqm welcome tent and event space hosted by the National Film Board of Argentina (INCAA) within the new Croisette Village outdoor exhibition  area. The Argentina pavilion in The Palais des Festivals was hostingup to 150 independent producers from across the country.

Argentina is a beautiful country. Wealthy of shooting locations. I went there for the first time in 2013 to gain research for my film. My film is at Cannes Film Festival this year (2014). I shot a 30min pilot film about Argentina’s military dictatorship of the late 80’s, early 70’s. As the movie is self funded I had to shoot in Oxford – England. The story is set in Buenos Aires so it would be interesting to see if the people from Argentina can tell that it is shot in the UK. I would love to shoot the feature of the film in Argentina. I hope to make some good contacts at the Argentinean Pavillion in Cannes this year and would like to invite anybody who is interested in the topic, to come to the screening. The time and date if the screening to be confirmed. Please contact me: +44 (0)7976 939420
The films characters are based on real people. Alfredo Astiz, Dagmar Hagelin, Aldolfo Scillingo, Julio Poch, Azucena Vilaflor, Maria Norma Berger.
