Lions Health, a brand-new Festival celebrating creativity in healthcare communications, took place on 13-14 June 2014, and awarded first Lions Health prizes.
Pharma and Health & Wellness
The Lions Health, a new creation by Cannes Lions on health communication was held over two days, 13 and 14 June, preceding the main International Festival of Creativity, at the Palais des Festival in Cannes. The Festival offered a rich program of seminars in two categories, Pharma and Health & Wellness, covering three areas: health (communication that falls under regulatory restrictions), wellness (communications that aren’t regulated) and sustainability. One seminar, McCann Health “Fighting For Your Creative Life”, hosted Game Of Thrones Director David Nutter.
A big market
Is selling pills or prescription medicines or anti-hair loss lotions less glamorous? To some extend, Healthcare agencies have long been the “poor cousins” in the ad world to attend the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in large numbers. Healthcare is though a large market: after Ad Age’s DataCenter, Healthcare communications agencies had total revenue of $3.62 billion in the sole U. S. A. The largest healthcare communications agency,
Publicis Healthcare boasts a network of 58 offices in 11 countries around the globe with over 5,000 employees.
Lions Health Awards
The Festival ended with the first Lions Health Awards ceremony in the Grand Auditorium, to honour the world’s most impactful creative healthcare communications. 66 Lions were awarded from Pharma (517 entries from 35 countries) and Health and Wellness (906 pieces of work from 48 countries) categories, including two Grands Prix. The juries of prominent creative professionals, have judged every piece of work, released short-lists and decided who was to be presented with the coveted trophies, replicating those of the main Festival.
Kathy Delaney, director of Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness global creative network, chaired the Health & Wellness jury, while Jeremy Perrott, McCann Healthcare Global Creative Director, presided over the Pharma category.
Louise Benson, Festival Director of Lions Health, said about the Awards: “We are thrilled by the volume and diversity of entries across all categories, for our launch year.”
In its inaugural year, 800 people from 50 countries came to Cannes to discover the life-changing creativity of the world’s best Healthcare communications agencies and and then share and network and finally, celebrate at the Gala party on the Majestic Hotel beach.
