MAPIC 2013 in Cannes Palais des Festivals concluded after 3 days of intense work, relationship, networking, inspiration, etc. Finally, three special days for every player in the retail industry.
The 2013 edition of MAPIC brought together nearly 8,300 participants from retail sector coming to Cannes from more than 70 countries, according to an initial report published by the organizers of the show. 2,400 brands were also represented, out of which, 400 were participating for the first time in the international market for retail real estate and distribution.
The Mapic was again held with great optimism and enthusiasm in an ambitious, friendly and festive atmosphere. Again the Cannes international event of decision makers in retail property and distribution was a success. According to studies conducted by Colliers International and RCA, investment in the real estate sector of European trade amounted to € 16.2 billion in the last six months, an increase of 14% compared to 2012.
The trend is confirming: new international markets are growing and arise such as India, China, Brazil and Eastern Europe. But also, large urban centers are relying on their attractive development and whose potential for development is often important.
Nathalie Depetro, Director of MAPIC said: “What characterizes the sector of international commercial real estate is that even in times of economic difficulties, some territories generate growth and provide significant opportunities for retailers.”
This year’s MAPIC came out of the era of flashy items. You didn’t see huge models for lavish projects in Dubai, but malls with “sustainable development”, at proximity, in France, Italy or Belgium. Today is the return to reality: one comes to work at MAPIC, and that’s all. Now, a mall is achieved if there is funding, if the project is good and if the developer puts 30 % cash on the table for the bank to deign to follow.
A more and more surprising Technology is invading new retail concepts that focus more and more in mall formats. Digital commerce was also back for this new edition. Prominent personalities of this rising industry (Microsoft, Invalio, CBRE) came to discuss the future of commerce in a digital environment that is constantly growing.
Sponsor of Mapic Opening Party at Majestic Barrière, russian jeweller Adamas, creator of the medals for 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, offered guests a jewel fashion show.
