Midem festival 2014 featured for its third edition more than 40 concerts by artists from around the world on the two Magic Mirrors stages showcasing the energies and creativity of international talents.
Spotlights on Brazil
This year, Brazil was Midem 2014 Country of Honour and one Magic Mirror hosted the performances of the Brazilian Music Experience. During three outstanding nights, Brazilian artists combined their talents for extraordinary samba, bossa nova, jazz or hip-hop, highlighting the varied and thriving musical culture of this country.
The festivities began with the evening with “Brazil Inside Out” presented by SACEM. From 08:00 pm to midnight, delegates have enjoyed Zemaria’s electro-pop, Márcio Faraco’s poetic compositions and the melodies by Renata Rosa, from the Brazilian Northeast as well as the folk-rock of Alceu Valenca.
The second night, “Sounds Like Rio” staged the music scene in Rio with pianist Claudio Dauelsberg, in trio for the occasion with Alex Rocha and Ricardo Costa. Then, three female singers took control of the scene: Andrea Dutra, Raquel Coutinho and Rita Benneditto for samba and jazz, with electro and pop-rock.
The evening “Samba New Generation” featured a rich line-up of talented artists. Guitarist Daniel Murray and three samba specialists succeeded on stage: Leandro Fregonesi, Renata Jambeiro and Joyce Candido. Finally, Criolo’s hip-hop fusion closed the three days of Brazilian music.
Asia creates excitement
At the second Music Mirror, dedicated to pavilions, the “Night Sessions” were in the colors of one Asian country: the Taiwan Music Night featured O-Kai Singers, A-Lin, Shin et Xiao Yu; the K-Pop Night Out with VIXX, Dynamic Duo… and Malaysian Supernova featuring Shila Amzah, Goldkartz, Azlan & The Typewriter and ThomasJack. The “Music at Noon” sessions showcased every day some bands for 30mn gigs. One of the most popular was the “Aussie BRBQ”! The 2 winners of “Play Midem Live”, selected in partnership with Sonicbids, CALLmeKAT and The Young Folk, performed during Tuesday’s “Music At Noon”.
During Midem Festival 2014, on February 3, Sony ATV Music Publishing proposed a concert at Théâtre Debussy Hall in the Palais des Festivals of the best films soundtracks performed by the Regional Orchestra of Cannes Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, conducted by Laurent Petitgirard with Emily Loizeau and Ibrahim Maalouf as guest soloists.
