The 37th edition of the Regates Royales de Cannes Trophee Panerai, the major event of the classic yachting, offered five days of majestic regattas in the Bay of Cannes.

The Regates Royales de Cannes Trophee Panerai bring together the “old riggings” ships from the last century who deploy their huge sails between the Lérins Islands and Théoule for five days of vehement regatta. Some 50,000 spectators on the Croisette have followed the evolutions of the Tradition Yachts, the gaff sail boats, schooners, cutters, sloops, yawls, Class or monotypes.

Some incredible enthusiasts

The owners of old ships who were racing this year in the Regates Royales de Cannes Trophee Panerai, have once again demonstrated they were amazing enthusiasts. And proud to once again bring their yachts with a masterly beauty with crews increasingly sharp over the editions to perform the maneuvers and tactics.
The 79 classic yachts were divided into seven categories of vessels by size and age, with the venerable loke Eleonora (49,40m) Xarifa (49,70m), Mariquita (38,20m), Moonbeam of Fife III (30m), Karenita (23,20m)… Some racers among the most renowned in the 20th century such as Il Moro di Venezia MaxiYacht (20,40m), or the smaller one from the 60-70s, like Helisara (11,30m), Palynodie, Stiren (14,25m), Oryx (14,90m) and Ganbare (10,50m) mingled into the struggle.

Tribute to Florence Arthaud

This year, the City of Cannes has celebrated the thirty-seven-year renewal of Regates Royales Trophee Panerai, one of the oldest coastal races since the first edition was held in 1929 in honor of King Christian X of Denmark. The fight was tough and the wind, that was present, accentuated the naval battles.
Alongside the Regates, on September 24, the Regates Royales paid a tribute to Florence Arthaud, the sailor who tragically disappeared on March 9 in a helicopter accident while participating in the filming of the show Dropped.

For ten years, the Regates Royales de Cannes Trophee Panerai are also the last stage of the Panerai Trophy, a true world championship classic yachting: all crews that follow the classic spirit of origin, also aspire to engrave their names on the trophies of the Regates Royales de Cannes et du Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge.
In tribute to its past linked to the sea, Officine Panerai is very involved in promoting the culture of classic sailing. The Italian luxury brand is sponsoring the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, the leading international regatta circuit for vintage yachts.
In 2007, the company bought and restored the Bermudan ketch Eilean, built in 1936 in the legendary Fife of Fairlie shipyards. Today, she is the brand’s ambassador at rallies of vintage and classic yachts and regularly participates in the Regates Royales de Cannes Trophee Panerai.
