Cannes International Games Festival Open to All

For three days, the Cannes International Games Festival 2014 welcomed gamers, enthusiasts and curious of all ages for an intergenerational festival of gaming pleasure.

From February 28 to march 2, 2014 the Cannes International Games Festival was a planet on its own, a bubble in time, a playful oase of genuine gaming pleasure. The wole range of ludic activities, appealing to the mind only or the rest of the body, were gathered at the Palais des Festivals, spreading on an area of 15,000 sqm. One could find the latest video game, classics like chess, as well as the latest simulation games, board games, or cards. Hundreds of games were free for testing be they avant-premieres, competition games or discoveries.
To share their passion of the game during initiations, 270 exhibitors, 300 authors and illustrators mingled with the public for demonstrations and crazy parties.
At the Cannes International Games Festival, visitors could learn the rules of the great classical disciplines: Backgammon, Rummy, Bridge, Coinche, Chess, Tarot, Belote, Scrabble… and even confront champions of these games which host numerous tournaments. In the video games area, all platforms were represented, Xbox, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, PS4… and a crowd of fans could indulge in their favorite games. All kind of other games with cards, figures, elements to skillfuly manipulate,  were to discover or to know more about, an impressive expression of the ludic imagination and creativity
The Cannes International Games Festival also hosted the OFF, meetings where designers come with their prototypes to meet gamers and publishers and have them test the mechanisms of their game. It considered by professionals as a living game laboratory.

As d’Or awards ceremony

The jury of the Cannes International Games Festival has tested some 900 games published in France during the past year. Out of them were select fourteen who competed for the coveted title of As d’Or – Game of the Year. See our Presentation of Nominees.
The awards winners was unveiled on February 27 at the Palais des Festivals at a ceremony attended by members of the Jury, nominees and a large audience.

As d’Or – Game of the Year, Child: RIFF RAFF – A game of skill requiring composure to place eight pieces balanced on the ship. 20 to 30 minutes, 2 to 4 players , from 8 years.

As d’Or – Jury Prize: LES BATISSEURS – Quick and simple cards and strategy game, a management game with modern graphics inspired by video games. 30 minutes, 2 to 4 players, from 10 years.
